It looks like Scream VI is aiming to score big. The US previews on Thursdays grossed over $5.7M, higher than what the previous installment scored last year. It’s expected to get the biggest opening of the franchise with around $40M over the weekend (a possible $50M gross is possible).

Critically speaking, this new sequel seems to be garnering positive reviews with many praising Hayden Panettiere’s comeback as Kirby Reed and the overall darkness and bloodiness of the sequel. It averaged a 62/100 on Metacritic (from 44 reviews) and a 79% approval from RottenTomatoes (with 179 reviews).

Scream VI is already drawing blood at the box office, where it earned $5.7 million in Thursday previews from 3,125 theaters a separate special fan event.

That compares to $3.5 million in previews for last year’s Scream, and the $5.5 million in previews for last weekend’s Creed III.

Scream VI expands into a total of 3,675 cinemas today and should post a series-best domestic debut of at least $35 million over Oscar weekend for Paramount and Spyglass.

The last Scream film, released in January 2022, opened to $30 million domestically in an impressive showing for the pandemic era. The biggest North American start of the franchise belongs to 2000’s Scream 3 ($34.7 million), not adjusted for inflation.

Scream VI, which cost a reported $35 million to make before marketing, follows survivors of last year’s installment as they leave Woodsboro for New York City. Unfortunately, the menacing killer Ghostface isn’t far behind. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who run Radio Silence Productions with Chad Villella, returned to direct.

Happy Scream VI release week guys! Today, we discover the new photoshoot Hayden was spotted doing back in late January for Women’s Health.

It’s the fourth consecutive day of rain in Los Angeles, and Hayden Panettiere, clad in a white sweatshirt and sweatpants, is lighting candles in the guest room of her apartment before cozying up underneath a blanket. The 33-year-old actor has owned this home since she was 16 years old— one of her first big purchases after moving from New York to L.A. and landing the role of Claire on the hit NBC series Heroes.

“This is the last place my family lived all together,” she says of her parents and younger brother, Jansen. Hayden moved multiple times over the past 15 years, including relocating to Tennessee to film the TV show Nashville. But she always held on to this place.

Recently, she’s been renovating it into her personal sanctuary since returning to L.A. after a four-year hiatus from acting. “I’ve completely redone it,” she beams, looking over her shoulder at two black-and-white prints she brought back from Montreal, where she shot Scream 6. She’s particularly fond of the lighting she installed—bulbs that change color to suit your mood. Now, they’re pink and yellow for warmth. “It feels like home,” she says.

There’s no missing the symbolism: This homecoming isn’t simply about a place. For Hayden, it’s a state of mind, a return to her roots—to herself—after years of struggling with postpartum depression and substance abuse and giving up custody of her daughter, Kaya, to her ex, retired pro boxer Wladimir Klitschko.

Hayden admits she’s nervous to do a cover tied to a movie release—it’s been awhile. But she says it’s important to her.

Plus, she has decades of experience to guide her.

Hayden started work as a child actor at 4 years old. She went from roles in popular daytime soap operas to Grammy nominee before she was 10. She starred opposite Denzel Washington in Remember the Titans at 11, and at 14, she trained to race a zebra in South Africa for the movie Racing Stripes. She’s done her own stunts (in heels) and learned to ice skate like a pro. She became a prime-time television staple for most of her teens and 20s, and while other celebrities her age were out partying, she was constantly working—and her star continued to rise.

‘Scream VI’ Teaser: Ghostface Takes Manhattan – Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group have unleashed a teaser trailer for the sixth installment of the Scream franchise, and in Scream VI it seems Ghostface has moved East and is stalking New York City.

The teaser shows a crowded NYC subway train stocked with what seem to be Halloween revelers, but one costumed character is giving off an especially spooky vibe: Ghostface, apparently, is no joke.

The official synopsis: Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro (California) behind and start a fresh chapter. In Scream VI, Melissa Barrera (“Sam Carpenter”), Jasmin Savoy Brown (“Mindy Meeks-Martin”), Mason Gooding (“Chad Meeks-Martin”), Jenna Ortega (“Tara Carpenter”), Hayden Panettiere (“Kirby Reed”), and Courtney Cox (“Gale Weathers”) return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra and Samara Weaving. (Not returning to the franchise is Neve Campbell, who announced earlier this year that she wouldn’t be back.)

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett from a script by James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick (based, of course, on the characters created by Kevin Williamson), the film is exec produced by Kevin Williamson, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, Chad Villella and Courtney Cox, with William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein producing.

Scream VI will hit theaters on March 10, 2023.
